おっと、鈴鹿に行く前に、この間の茂原の模様を、ダーっと。
金曜日の夜、カートを格納しているMスポーツに集結、まずは茂原の温泉へと向かう。がさつなピットクルー、ビッグバードとは温泉で待ち合わせ。茂原のレースに向けてメンテをしていたときに、肋骨のフレームにクラックが入っているのを発見。クルマに優しくない走りしているからだと、チクチク文句を並べようと台詞を考えつつ、自分のカートを見ると、自分のにもクラックが入っていた・・・。一転表情も柔らかく、優しい口調で、いっぱい練習で走ったし、一年使ったフレームだもんねえ。クラックも入るよねえ♥と、にこやかに語りかける。フレームに合掌、せずにバチバチっと溶接してしのぐのです。
今回は、チームぶる〜とのファラオM選手にピットクルーとして来てもらっている。本当は本人も出場を検討していたが、瑞浪のレース前にまたもやエンジンが焼き付いたため、お手伝いです。お祓いに行くつもりだったところを、エジプトで憑いた悪霊なら、日本語で祓っても言葉が通じないからダメだと、予定をのばして来てもらったので、手伝いにはもちろん本人と、エジプトからの同伴者も一緒。やっぱり悪霊が憑いているのか、温泉で女風呂に向かって不穏な行動をとっていたなあ。
茂原の温泉には薬湯があるのだが、体の悪いところがしみるらしい。だが、肋骨以外、今まで入った奴は全員、キ○タマがしみるのだ。半端じゃなくしみて、ヒーヒー言う羽目になるのだ。最初は自分だけかと悩みかけたが、みんななるので病気でないに違いない！今回は悩みたくないので、薬湯を避けてとっととあがる。肋骨は優雅に薬湯に浸かっている。キ○タマのしみないこいつは？何だ？
そのことは、ほうっておいて駐車場で仮眠。
朝起きると、天気の心配はなんのその、晴れていい天気。とっととサーキットに移動し、ピットの設営。あんまり朝一から走り始めても、てんで路面ができてなくて、つるんつるんなので、ゆっくりと準備を進める。今回はレース前日の土曜日から、中々の台数が集まっている。6月の全日本選手権に出場予定のドライバーも練習に来ているためか？数名の四輪プロドライバーも走行にきていたようだ。
ボチボチと走行を開始。ファラオがいてくれることで、セッティング出しの効率がとてもあがり、ぴゅっぴゅっとセッティングを決められ、満足なセットを出せた。タイムも悪くない。今宵はこれで良しとしようと、明日の仕込みに4時過ぎに入る。でもやっぱりサーキットを出るのは7時だった。
土曜日のうちに、受付も車検も済ませてあるし、今日は時間にも余裕あり。旅館の部屋も何故かとても広い間取りで、いきおい余って、ビール飲んじまいました。お金を入れないと見れないテレビに細工をし（こんなことだけは頼りになるうすらでかいピットクルー、ビッグバード）、見放題に変え、またもやお灸で部屋を煙らす。たっぷりくだらない時間を過ごし、ビッグバードの強烈な放屁に失神しつつそのまま就寝。暑い夜だったので窓を開けたまま眠る。そして明け方、やっぱり窓が開いてると寒いなあとブルブル。起きて気付けば、クーラー入れっぱなし、温度設定は18°。喉痛い、だるい。リモコンを握って、俺はスイッチを消したはずだ！と言い張る鳥居に取りあえず、肩固めを決め、ウォーミングアップ。サーキットに向かう。
既に他のピットは慌ただしく作業をしている。スススッとピットに潜り込み、ピットを整え、朝一からいたような顔で、コーヒーを飲む。優雅なトイレタイムを過ごし、ドラミに行くと、ピットクルー達はニコニコしている。レースクイーンが四人いたからだ。俺は一番右の娘だ。彼女は俺に向かって微笑んだ！と、色々と忙しい。当然ミーティングの中身は聞いてない。
天気はどうやらずっと晴れのまま行きそうだ。後は気温とにらめっこして、ジェットを決める。昨日より高い気温なので、薄めのジェットに替えて、いよいよ公式練習開始。
クルマの動き、ヨシ。エンジン、縁石で跳ねさすと、ちょっとグズるも、まあヨシ。一度ピットに戻りエア圧調整。再び走り出す。公式練習で、イタル勢の何台かが、42秒台に入れていた。ムカムカしてみる。
必殺のタイムアタックを仕掛けるべくクルマをチェックし、グリッドに向かう。元気なイタル勢が出て来ないので、とっとと前の方にクルマを並べる。茂原のT.T.は5分しかない。ぴゅっとコースインするが、詰まる。こりゃ駄目だと間をあける、詰まる。ムカムカと素行悪く手をフリフリみんなを先に行かせ、心を落ち着けてアタック。ムムムっとコントロールラインを過ぎて、電光掲示板を見ると、一番上に表示された。42秒台にはいかないが、まあいいでしょう。と、ピットに戻ると、イタル勢、なにやらタイムが出せなかったみたいでポール。んんん5千円ゲット。
公式練習のときに、一度セルモーターが回らなくなったので、ここでパタパタとモーター交換。あちこちワイヤーで縛り付けてあるので、手こずる。お願いだから無事に走ってねと、祈りながら食事をとる。
予選ヒートスタート。超スローなローリング・スタートで行くが、オフィシャルが旗をフリフリ。ペースを落として走行しろと促しているのかと思って、これ以上落とせるかと、呟いていたら、オフィシャルの手は上を向いている。何！？もっと速く走れってか！？その頃実況放送では、「遅いですねえ。どうしたんでしょう？」と言っていたらしい。で、スタート。1コーナーまで2番手が横並びどころか、3番手がイン側に気配をさせている。ヒー、と嘆きながら、2コーナーに進入。あぶないあぶない。
2周目、3周目とタイムを詰め、電光掲示板を見ると43秒フラット台。おっ！やるじゃん、MAXのコースレコードかなあ、と悦に入ること、0.085秒、後ろから42秒台で追われてるじゃん！・・・んん、43.0秒台連発したのに、迫ってくるなあ。背後からの音が近付いてきます。警戒警戒、おっと、ヘリポート手前のシケインで、ややミス。ヤバっと、インを警戒してやや塞ぐと、ドヘッ！滑った！パピューンと立ち上がりでかわされる。ダサイ！このままでは終われん、と追いかけざま、プチ乗り上げしてしまった。いや、ただでは済まさんってそういう意味じゃないんだけど、寄ってくるんだもん、ああ、危ない。と思っていると、周回遅れ出現。最終コーナーを立ち上がって、1コーナー、2コーナー、周遅れが微妙な位置づけに来たあ！前車インをつこうとする、僕はクロス狙いでアウトにふって、2コーナーに飛び込み立ち上がり、おっと！おっと前車、周遅れに乗り上げ、フロントカウル、ヒラヒラクルクル舞い上がる！あっ、ラッキー。これは今回のメカニック、ファラオMに憑いているエジプトの方の力かな、ありがとう。
後はタイヤを温存してペースを落としてゴール。間抜けなミスは、ラッキーで消されたのでした。今回はウェイトハンデをつけられているので、ガソリンを消費しない様チンタラ走り、タイヤカスをたっぷり拾いながらピットに向かう。プラス600g、悪くない。燃料検査でガソリンを抜かれる。燃料の不正より、MAXでイタルと戦うことの方が大変だい、と検査員に言うと、まったくその通りと返事された。んんん。ヘルメットを脱ぐと、ミスをファラオMにナジられる。反省。
なんだか緩んでしょうがないチェーンを交換。ついでにクラッチを洗浄して各部チェックをして決勝に備える。
今回はファラオMがいてくれて心強い。こういう風にレースにアプローチしたかったということが全部でき、後は気合いを入れるだけだった。テンションを高めるだけ高め、いよいよ決勝のグリッドへ。早々にシートに座っているとレースクイーンが横に来て記念撮影が始まる。今日の俺はレースクイーンの太腿も目に入らない、気合いが入っている。すると近付いてくるファラオM、おもむろにレースクイーンの持つ傘を取り上げ、レースクイーンのポーズで僕の横に立ち写真を撮り始める。イヤ〜ン、ヤメテ〜、気が抜けるやないの。レースクイーンも受けている。おっと、今日の俺はレースクイーンの姿も目に入らないのだったっけ。集中集中、いいケツに集中・・・スタート。
ローリング中横を見ると、あれ？2番手がいない。やったらみんな遅れている、いっそうペースを落とし、様子をみるが、ローリングやり直し。2周目、もういいだろうと行くと、またやり直し。結局原因は、エンジンスタートできないドライバーを待っていただけだったのだが、燃料ギリギリなんで困ります。3周目でようやくスタート。
2番手横並び、3番手の気配もあり。ウヒー、左にも右にも小っさな牽制を送りつつ、無事2コーナー進入。んん、なんか予選ヒートのときより、エンジンが吹けない。タラーっと脂汗を流しつつ、排気バルブを調整。気合いを入れて周回を重ねる。電光掲示板で2番手がずっと同じようなタイムで来ているのが見える。毎周掲示板を睨みながら走行を重ねる。するとまた周遅れ出現。さっきと同じようなタイミング。青旗が振られます。しかし、どうやらこのドライバー、旗が見えてないようで、危ない目に合うこと2回。ちょっとドキドキしながらやっとパス。まっず、後ろに迫られる！と思って必死にまた走ります。が、実際にはタイムを落とすこともなく、後ろとは差をつけたままだったらしいが、しかし油断ならんので最後まで集中して走る。頭でゴールするときには、シューマッハばりにピットクルーに向かって手を振ろうなんて考えていたが、結局ゴールラインをくぐるまで、アクセルを抜くことはできなかった。ラインを越してからパピューンと手をあげ、即ペースダウン、一生懸命タイヤカスせかせか拾い、ピットへ。おめでとうと手を出してくれる人達に、ちょっと待ったと、言いつつ、計量。僕のハンデ付き下限ジャスト！！160.3キロ！
1gでも欠けてたらアウト。俺は言われた量よりもちょっとガソリンを多く入れたんだ！と主張するビッグバードを取りあえず抱きしめておく。やっと勝った。

次戦は初の鈴鹿、そして瑞浪と、ひとつも落とせないギリギリの状況。いい流れをキープできるよう、気合いを入れて行きます。
レースの後の焼き肉で、僕の賞金を目減りさせてくれた、ピットクルーの鳥居君、ホンッとにありがとう。君はよく食うなあ・・・焼き肉屋だぞここは、海老ってなんだ海老って。
