Windows 7はVistaよりは軽いもののやはりXPよりは重いですから。私はVAIO type PをVistaモデルで購入し、その後XPにし、そしてWindows 7発売後にすぐにWindows 7にしたのですが、これはやめときゃよかったなあ、と激しく後悔しました。やっぱあの手のマシンはXPですよ。

VAIO type PのXP用ドライバのアナウンスがあった次の日に速攻でXPにダウングレードしたものの、肝心のドライバのダウンロードはまだ先のようで場当たり的にIntelやらRealtekのサイトからチップのドライバをダウンロードしてなんとか動くようにしていたのですが、ようやくソニーから正式にリリースされたようです。意外に速かったのでちょっとびっくりです。
ソニーは5月26日、Atom搭載ミニノートPC「VAIO type P」の2009年夏モデルとして、同シリーズ初のWindows XP搭載機種を発表した。店頭販売向けにボディーカラーがクリスタルホワイトの「VGN-P50/W」、ガーネットレッドの「VGN-P50/R」、ペリドットグリーンの「VGN-P50/G」を6月6日に発売する。カラー以外の仕様は3モデルとも共通だ。価格はいずれもオープンで、実売価格は8万 5000円前後と予想される。

Windows Mobile搭載機をカーナビとして利用できるようにしよう！という発想はとてもよいのですが、実際に使ってみると、Windows Mobile機が途中でハングアップしてしまって運転中にオロオロした、なんて経験をしたなあ、なんてことを思い出しました。ええ、助手席でナビしてたんで、「次どっち？」って聞かれても答えられなくなるわけで・・・。再起動している間車も止まってくれればいいんですけどねえ。
さらに、The New York Times CompanyとWachington Post Companyの2社が「Kindle DX」向けのパイロットプログラムを開始する。この2社が保有する「The New York Times」「The Boston Globe」「The Washington Post」の3紙は、新聞を配布していない地域限定で、長期契約者に対して「Kindle DX」向けに低価格版の購読サービスを提供する。
